The FIHL is proud to announce that Madison “Madi” Natter, the 5’8”, 2002 Sting Rays Defensemen from Parrish, FL, has signed a commitment letter for D2 at Liberty University!
Madison grew up learning to love hockey in the Sunshine State at age 6 and has loved it ever since. She started as the only girl for the in-house Ellenton Fresh Gear team and from there went on to play for her first travel team, the Jr. Bulls. She was a Bull for 5 seasons and started playing with them at the age of 8. Madison has co-rostered on boys and girls teams for many seasons. She grew up also playing on teams such as the Gulf Coast Flames, Lady Vipers U12 & U14, Dallas Girls U16, Tampa Bay Crunch Girls U16, Saddlebrook Girls U-19 and Nashville Jr. Preds Girls U19. She has attended USA Hockey Nationals 4 times with her girl’s teams.
When the FIHL began, Madi having had familiar ties with Coach Frontiero and Wyatt from those learn to skate days, (pictured above at Wyatts 5th birthday skate), she showed up for the combine and made an instant impact. Madi immediately worked with the other girls at the combine and was picked 19th over-all at the FIHL Inaugural Draft. She was an easy choice for Coach Kevin Guay for Captain of her new team, the Stingrays. Madi was also selected to and named Co-Captain of the FIHL All-Star Blue Team. She has compiled 1-15-16-12 totals in 19 games played. Those totals rank her in the top five defensemen of the FIHL.
Madison is so passionate about the game of hockey and it shows. From the FIHL to the local Men’s league games, every game is an opportunity to grow her knowledge of the game from all angles. Her love of the game has caused her to have a strong desire to give back to the community in a manner that allows her to pass that passion of hers on to others. When Madison was 13 years old, she became a volunteer coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning Learn-to-Play program, putting in over 200 volunteer hours. She also became a USA Hockey Level 1 Coach and a USA Hockey Level 2 Referee.
Giving back to the community outside of hockey is another passion of hers. She also volunteered countless hours for those she worships with, working the annual pumpkin patch, and giving back all money earned to help others in need. Her accomplishments off the ice are just as impressive as her accomplishments on the ice.
2020 Lightning High School Hockey League Scholar Athlete Award recipient.
2021 National Technical Honor Society Member
2017 and 2021 Best of Show Photography Award recipient.
Now, after all the years and work, Madi is college bound- with a 3.846 GPA. She was invited to a recent tryout for the Women’s Hockey Team at Liberty University in Virginia-a school that takes exceptional pride in their Hockey teams. It didn’t take long for the coaches to announce that she was officially accepted into Liberty University and she has officially signed her letter of intent to play for the Lady Flames D2 Women’s Hockey Team! It may not last however as the coaches have already told Madi that as soon as the D1 team has a defensive position open, she will be filling it. (Pictured below with her new head coach.)
The FIHL is proud of Madi and all she has brought to the league, and knows she will continue that tradition in Virginia. CONGRATUALTIONS MADI!!
