Natter, Mondo Headline Awards Night!

It was a star studded night for the FIHL as the top players from around the league were in attendance in a standing room only event at McDivots. The evening started off with dinner and for the players, with the FIHL Inaugural season in the rear view mirror, allowing for a relaxed night filled with banter and camaraderie. Later, massive raffles to liquidate what was left of the Inaugural Season Merchandise, along with a bonus raffle for a brand new True Stick. The winner of that was Delaney Zerfass thanks to Gentlemen of the Year winner, Jack Vitchock, who before he even knew he won the award was again a gentlemen by giving up the stick when he actually won it, because it was a lefty. That was followed up with the total destruction of two GIANT Sheet cakes, one courtesy of Publix Groceries and the other the Smalley Family. Then it was time for the awards. A season long battle with many awards on the stats sides coming down to the last game of the season, and the players voting on the rest. The commissioner pitched in his own awards and appreciations and by the time the night was over, 34 total awards had been handed out. The FIHL cup was on display with the Sand Sharks full roster engraved upon it, as well as the Championship MVP and All Star MVP cups as well.

We highlight the top two winners here today as Maxwell Mondo and Madison Natter won The FIHL Off Ice Achievement Award and FIHL MVP to the League Award respectively. Both players had stories done by the league this season on them and their achievements and the players seem to agree as it was their votes that got them the awards. The surprise of the night for both players was that those two awards moving forward would be named after them, complete with their own annual trophy for the winner to have their name and year engraved upon. Mondo and Natter are moving on and will be making only guest appearances at best in FIHL II as pool players. Mondo reports for duty at the Naval Academy on June 30th and Madison is headed to Liberty University to play D2 College Hockey. They will be sorely missed and we look forward to their visits back home in the following season.
